The StatelinePaddlers February meeting will be Pot-Luck at the Lone Rock Cafe in Rock Cut State Park on Sunday Feb. 22, 2015 at 1:00 pm.   I will bring Barbecue, buns, chips and dip.  Please signup using the link so I will know how much barbecue and buns I need to bring.  Please sign up here. or email me at jreuter@pobox.com and I will continue to update this posting below.  Jim could also also arrange to cook potato soup, have cookies and scones if he knows a head of time.  Bring your trips ideas and dates if possible to the meeting so we can get the flyer reedy before Canoecopia on March 13-15.

Turtle Creek Paddle on 11/2/14 – O’Riley Rd to Sweet Allyn Park

Harry T. (Tom) Meyen is hosting a Stateline Paddlers trip on Turtle Creek** Sunday November 2, 2014 ** Car shift will be at 10:00, plan to be there 09:30 to 09:45 to unload. The trip is about 11 miles. The launch is at on O’Reily Road about 400 meters (1/4 mile) east of the bridge in a small forests preserve. Take out will be in Sweet Allyn Park on the East side of Beloit. If you need directions to the launch, Take I-39 North to I-43, get off at Rt 140 go north about 1/2 mile to Townline Rd., then East about 4 miles to O’Reily Rd and turn North. The road turns right after the bridge, and the launch is at the curve in the road. Weather is predicted to be in the low 50s, and the water will be getting cold. Dress accordingly. Check this list Saturday. If the weather turns bad, or no one responds, I will cancel. Moon Light Paddle on Pierce (Friday the 13’th) 6/13/2014

Moonlight Paddle is held June 13, 2014.  We start at 7:00pm at the main boat ramp at Pierce Lake, weather permitting.  We paddle around the lake until 9:30pm. You must have a good flashlight so that you can be seen.  We must be out of the park by 10:00pm.  (Warm clothing and bug spray are also suggested)

Sugar River Paddle on This Sunday 6/1/2014

We will meet at Yale Bridge on Sunday, June 1 at about 9:00 AM.  The canoe launch is north of Sugar River Forest Preserve as shown in the map below.  We will shuttle at 9:30 and try to be on the water 10ish.

The lower Sugar River is a winding river for moderate paddlers.  It is usually a somewhat slower current however it is at higher water level now so it may be stronger.   It is has a sand bottom with some tree dams to go around.  The section of the sugar we will run is from Yale Bridge Road to Two Rivers Forest Preserve.  The trip will be all down river except for the last 1500 feet going upstream on the Pecatonica River to the take out in Two Rivers Forest Preserve.  Bring a lunch or snack as we will be stopping on a sand bar along way if we can find one.  I will go over a few pointers about paddling on a river just before we put in for the beginners if we have any.

The paddle will take about 3.5 hours with a 30 minute stop in the middle some were if we have to do this.  The total trip will be 7.6 miles at an average of 2.4 MPH weather permitting of course.  Jeff Reuter will be hosting this paddle for more info call me on my cell at 815-494-8502.  Here is a map of where we will be.

Pierce Lake Boat Ramp Will Be Closed For Replacement

The main boat ramp for Pierce Lake, adjacent to the Lone Rock concession, is scheduled to be closed for replacement early spring 2014. Replacement could take up to 2 months and planned to be complete by May 1st. During this period, motor boaters are instructed to access Pierce Lake from the boat ramp located in the campground. I for us kayakers and canoeists we will have to put our boats in on the north side of the fishing dock by the boat ramp. The south side of the fishing dock is close until they get the boat ramp done.  I will post more when I have more details.  Here is what it looks like now.

Stateline Paddlers meeting (Pizza Party)

Mactown Forest Preserve is at the comer of Freport road or IL route 75 and Wagon Wheel road in Rockton, IL. (42.445185,-89.07965) Note: the Mactown boat launch is the next road to the right passed the Visitors building and down the hill to the river. The trip is almost 10 miles. Because of the colder weather setting in remember to dress for the water. This can be a beginners paddle has boat traffic will be light if any at all.
